Snapdragon 630
CPU - Snapdragon 630 hasn’t seen much improvement on the cpu front, it still uses the same 14nm FinFet as sd 625, sd 626 and has the same clock frequency as sd 626 and same A53 cores.
GPU- it has seen 30% improvement (as compared to sd 626) in graphic performance and added support for vulkan API. This will result in more immersibe gaming and efficient rendering of 3D graphics.
Memory- It also has added support for dual-channel LPDDR4 memory @ 1333MHZ. Whereas, previous snapdragon 626 only supported LPDDR3 @ 933 MHZ. LPDDR4 uses less power than LPDDR3 and can be clocked to a higher clock rate.
In a nutshell, you won’t see any performance improvement in cpu- intensive tasks but you will see huge improvement in graphic-intensive applications. This is good!
Snapdragon 660
CPU- This is where you see real improvement. You will see 20% performance improvement in cpu- intensive applications as compared to snapdragon 653. What’s more it is manufactured on 14nm FinFet architecture and uses 8 custom kryo 260 core.
( Note: Anandtech states that ‘bigger cluster’ core are based on A73 core but i think it is still A72 core because performance improvement is not big enough given that it has transitioned from HPM to FinFet, 28nm to 14nm, ARM A72 to custom core 'kryo 260', and it is due to the 14nm FinFet (FinFet is efficient so cpu temperature will not rise quickly, accordingly, less cpu throttling), higher clock- rate, and custom kryo core. Remember A73 core can provide you 15% performance improvement alone if implemented on the same process node as compared to A72 core.)
GPU- you will see 30% performance improvement in graphic than snapdragon 653 and support for vulkan API. This is a huge improvement!
Memory- It supports dual- channel LPDDR4 memory @ 1866 Mhz. It is also a huge improvent as previous snapdragon 600 series only supported upto LPDDR3 @ 933 MHz. This will result in more data getting transfer at any point of time.
Snapdragon 660 is good for multitasking as it has seen improvement on CPU, GPU and memory.
So, in a nutshell, snapdragon 660 is ‘sweet’ choice among any 600-series SOCs and ‘14nm FinFet’ is a icing on the cake.
